Gospel Truth: The Historical Reliability of the Gospels
By the standards used for any other historical documents, the Gospels provide excellent historical information about Jesus. The Gospels fit the genre of ancient biographies, which normally sought to communicate lessons through historical information, and were normally very reliable for persons of the recent past. Modern approaches that treat the Gospels as less reliable than other ancient biographies, or Jesus' disciples as less interested in their master's teachings than other disciples were, display an unfair bias that does not meet normal historiographic standards
